Martin Dudley worked for 25 years in local government libraries delivering services, introducing ICT and planning service development at a senior level both locally and nationally. He also produced research reports on a wide range of service oriented library issues.
In 1995 he established Standon Parish Electronic Centre, the trail-blazing IT based community facilities centre. Based in a village in rural Hertfordshire, the centre offered access and training on ICTs, work space, local information services, and acted as the office of the Parish Council which underwrote its running costs until 2001 when it closed. In 1997 he left local government, and shortly after established RIS.. Moving to the north of England, he helped as a trustee of a village investment fund, and acted as project leader on schemes to improve facilities and the environment.
